When we first started looking at Island Packets we met Pam and A.D. Wilson, owners of Pappy's Packet, a beautiful blue hulled IP420. They invited us aboard and showed us all the great features of these boats as well as some of the modifications they had made on theirs. It was actually the time we spent with them that convinced us to buy an Island Packet 420.
One of the really great mods they did was up in the forward head. The shower is a seperate stall from the rest of the head but it shares the floor pan. When you take a shower the water runs out over the entire floor even though the drain is located on the shower side. Their solution, the one we copied, was to put a dam across the floor underneath the shower door to contain the water to the shower area. The dam is built of a product called Starboard which is a high density polyethelyne that's water and UV resistant and is used in place of wood in many places on a boat. It's only about an inch high which should be enough to do the job but could be a toe stubber if you're not aware of it.
We asked John Hellwege of Gratitude Yachts to handle the installation for us. It was done quickly and inexpensively and we're very pleased with the results.
